Current Problem
Hi I know you can add rework items to an order after it's picked and then generate shipping labels to take into account increased weight however we have instances were we have 4800 orders of a single sku for 4800 people (it's limited edition, one per customer) . It would be amazing if at the product creation default stage I could automatically apply the packaging to be used for the sku. This would save the picker/packer having to manually scan the rework barcode 4800 items and also tell them what packaging to use. I think there should be an override where if there's more than one pick in an order the default packaging for a sku should be ignored as what's appropriate when it's just one item won't necessarily be for another sku with it. I was emailing with someone in Mintsoft about this the other day - here was my response (assuming you have all the dims for your products)
In my mind, we would enter the dims / cuboid of the different boxes we use and then the system would then say to our operatives use one box 3, use 2 of box 5 etc by virtually adding the boxes to the orders. You’d want them virtually adding as you don’t want them to appear on CN22’s etc but I’d say they should be scanned (we’re working towards getting all our boxes barcoded) to confirm the packaging used. Also, there needs to be some flexibility so if the packer has to use a bigger box, they can easily swap it in case a products dims are incorrect, throwing the calculation out. This way, the box inventory levels are also tracked as you’d book in the packaging on an ASN and assign to a location which would then decrement with each order, giving you traceability, volumes etc. If you’re redesigning, no point just saying it’s x number of boxes, specify the packaging as it’ll help the packers. This in turn will then drive the number of parcels at the label generation screen.
